You are probably aware that the cost of your home insurance is based on a whole range of factors. This includes risks such as theft, flooding, subsidence, lightning strikes and more. When you get home insurance quotes, the insurers look at all of the risks that are relevant to you and where you live, and then use them to calculate how much you need to pay.
This means, inevitably, that some areas end up paying more than others and some areas are affected by risks that aren’t as obvious in other parts of the country. For instance, some areas are much more prone to flooding than others, and risks such as subsidence are generally more common in the south of the country than the north, so this is reflected in insurance premiums.
It probably won’t come as much of a surprise to learn that the most expensive postcodes in the UK for home insurance are in London. Figures released in 2010 show that Stanmore in Harrow (postcode HA7) was the most expensive area in the country when it came to home insurance quotes, with an average of £286.50. All of the top ten expensive areas had postcodes in Greater London.
In contrast, people living in Bournemouth paid the least for their home insurance, with an average cost of just £103.98. The national average for the year was £164, showing just how significant the differences can be when it comes to determining home insurance costs. The UK may be a relatively small country, but there are certainly big differences in evidence here.
